the mountain of Salkantay (6264m.s.n.m):
According to some authors, the name of this mountain is a contraction that comes from Salqa = sullen or wild and Antay = produce clouds or avalanches.. It is usually prefixed with the name of Apu, which in Quechua language comes to mean Lord, the great mountains that mean something sacred above the valleys are thus defined. “Apu Salcantay”. The snow-capped Salcantay is one of the highest mountains in the Cusco region, without hesitation, is the grandest in its splendid isolation. From the step of Salkantay a 4.600 m.s.n.m we will have wonderful views of this imposing and majestic Andean giant (If the weather doesn't stop us). Salkantay trek is the trek that crosses the Salkantay pass at 4600m, Descend into the cloud forest and pass the Inca ruins of Llactapata.

Itinerary

DAY 1: CUZCO - MOLLEPATA - SORAYPAMPA - LAGUNA HUMANTAY

We will start our adventure Salkantay trek, picking up each passenger from their respective hotels before embarking on a bus tour of 4 hours. in the middle of the ride, we will stop in Mollepata at an altitude of 2,900 m durante 20 O 30 minutes of rest, then we will continue our trip directly to the last bus stop in Challacancha, where we will meet our porters and horses that will carry the equipment. and we started our hiking tour. To start our trek towards Soraypampa at 3,900m. When we get to Soraypampa, we will establish the base camp from where we can enjoy the beautiful views of the snowy peak of Salkantay. and where we will have break for lunch. After lunch, we will visit Humantay Lake to 4,200 m before starting our return to the base camp in Soraypampa around 5:00 pm. where our camping team will be waiting for our travelers with a delicious dinner.

  • 09:30 – 13.00 Start of the walk to Soraypampa(camp).
  • 13:00 – 14:00 Lunch / rest or free time.
  • 14:00 – 15:30 Hike to the Humantay lagoon.
  • 15:30 – 16:00 Apacheta ritual for Pachamama and free time.
  • 16:00 – 17:30 Return to base camp (Soraypampa).

DAY 2: SORAYPAMPA - WUAYRACPAMPA - CHAYLLAY

Early in the morning we will have our breakfast and then we will start a walk of 3 hours until we reach the highest point of our expedition, el Salkantay Pass (4,600 ma). From there, we walk towards Wayracpunku (Huayra Pampa), for our next meal. Then, the trip will continue going to the high jungle, where we will observe great trees with their arms extended over the streams, all full of bromeliads and orchids. This walk will last around 5 hours to reach our camp in Chaullay (2,900 mas l.) Where we will have dinner and rest.

  • 06:00 – 13.00 Start the trek from Soraypampa to Huayra Pampa.

  • 14:00 – 17:00 The trek begins from Huayra Pampa to Chaullay.

DAY 3: CHAULLAY - THE BEACH - SANTA TERESA

After breakfast around 6:30 am, we will go to Sahuyaco (The beach 2,080 masl). We will have lunch in this place. Then we continue our trip in our transport to Santa Teresa (1,550 masl) where we will establish our base camp and enjoy a relaxing reward in Cocalmayo (hot Springs). Then, we will have a traditional Peruvian dinner and rest well to prepare. the next day.

  • 07:00 – 11:30 Start the trek from Chaullay to La Playa.

  • 17:30 – 18:30 Return to Santa Teresa.

DAY 4: SANTA TERESA - HIDROELECTRICA - HOT WATERS (Machu Picchu town).

The next morning, after a good breakfast, the bus is waiting for us. Those who book in advance will zip-lining. The rest of the group will go to the meeting point of Hidroelectrica where the whole group will join for lunch after the activities. After a little relaxation in this place, We will continue walking along the railway that leads through this great jungle that the Incas knew by heart until our final destination.: hot waters. We walked for approx. 3 hours and you will find beautiful waterfalls, different ecological farms and possibly the curious wildlife of their arrival in the region (arrival scheduled around 4:00 pm). Here the group will spend the night in a hostel. In the evening we will all meet at a local restaurant to enjoy a great dinner and have a briefing about our next excursion to Macchu Picchu. Then you can visit the city.

DAY 5: HOT WATERS - MACCHU PICCHU - CUZCO

We get ready around 4:00 am to climb Machu Picchu, the walk will follow an ascending path that crosses the high jungle, just in time to see the spectacular sunrise. After passing the control input around the 6:00 am, our group will have a private guided tour during 2 hours in the Inca citadel, then passengers can enjoy Machu Picchu on their own. late afternoon, according to the departure time of the train, the group will walk down to Aguas Calientes to take the train back to Ollantaytambo, where everyone will be picked up and transferred to Cuzco. The group must be at the train station at least 30 minutes before departure. The Salkantay Trek ends in the Plaza de San Francisco, Cuzco.
