sacred Valley

The Incas' Sacred Valley

Located just an hour's drive from the city of Cuzco, is he destino turisco most visited by tourists. Since the archaeological centers of Pisaq and Ollataytambo are located, You will also find numerous Andean native communities, picturesque villages, bucolic landscapes, important archaeological sites.

The City of Ollantaytambo

With its cobbled streets, colossal buildings, a temple dedicated to the Sun and large agricultural platforms, Ollantaytambo was one of the most important royal properties erected by Pachacuti in the Sacred Valley.

In the fifteenth century, two inca sovereigns, Pachacuti Yupanqui and Tupac Yupanqui, they created an immense empire in South America, that went from the south of present-day Colombia to the center of Chile and occupied a large part of the Andean territories of Peru, Bolivia and northern Argentina. The Empire of the Four Regions of the Sun, or Tahuantinsuyo, stretched over more than 4.000 kilometers from north to south and was articulated by an impressive road network, of 40.000 kilometers of total extension. The nerve center of that powerful state was located in the heart of the Peruvian highlands: in a wide area over 3.000 meters of altitude in which the city of Cuzco was raised, capital of the Empire and court of the Incas. This area was crossed by the so-called sacred Valley, a territory that extends along the Vilcanota-Urubamba river, of extraordinary agricultural wealth and marked by a series of splendid Inca fortresses.
